Chapter 3: My Art

Here are some of my drawings and poster designs, some finished some not so finished.

This face is Locke from 'LOST'.

Here is a crazy looking Hobbit.

This head I drew is actually a sculpture.

This is a scene in a comic book I made up. This scene was about this guy in despiration fires his gun to kill his enemy.
Here is the same picture but I have coloured it in using Water colour and Gouache paint.

Chapter 2: Rick Griffin

Rick Griffin
Rick Griffin is a LEGEND in poster art and is a big reason why I got into the illustrator, Graphics side of art. When he was a teenager in the 50's, just like every other kid in California he was surfing and when he was 16 he came up with a surfing character called Murphy which appeared in many surf magazines.
This is the character Murphy.

Rick was illustrating posters for all of the top bands and musicians of the 60's and 70's like Hendrix and The Who. His talent as an artist was awesome and his posters are some of my favourite pieces of art because of the colour the skill of drawing but especially the typography. His lettering was so far ahead of its time and he created the Psychedelic style poster.

Chapter 1: The Journey Begins

Hello and welcome to the first blog of Journey Illustration.
My name is Carl and at this point in time I am at college studying Art, Graphics and Photography and I finish this year.

I will be blogging about my journey through life and showing you the artwork i like doing.

I have always liked to draw for as long as I can remember. When I was a kid I would draw characters from my favourite cartoon shows like 'The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' and 'The Simpson's'. I also drew characters from books and comic books.

After I finish college I want to carry on drawing and inking and maybe i'll get a job out of it. My style of drawing changes in some pictures I do, for example- If I am drawing a made up character I might draw that person or monster in a realistic sort of way, so all the legs and arms are the right length and its detailed and shaded. In other pictures when I draw made up characters I might not draw the person so realistic so its more of a cartoon caricature style but I will still put detail and shading on.

I still draw pictures from books and comics because I think that drawing or even just looking at artwork of illustrators that have made it as an illustrator can give you inspiration and ideas to come up with your own characters or story.

This is a more cartoon style.
